Kids Need Our Words began in 2014, founded by a seventeen-year-old who believed something simple: kids don't fall behind because they can't learn — they fall behind because no one showed up for them consistently.
Twelve years later, that founder is still here — and so is the belief. KNOW is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving students in grades 1–8 across California, Texas, Tennessee, New York, and more states.
Kids Need Our Words — our encouragement, our explanations, our time. Words are how we teach, and how we tell a kid: you're worth showing up for.
What we believe
Consistency over intensity
One dedicated tutor, every week, beats any crash course. Learning is a relationship.
Meet every student where they are
Placement is personal, per subject, and never a label. Every path points forward.
Cost is never the barrier
No student is turned away due to cost. Not a slogan — a policy, backed by reduced tuition and full scholarships.
How we're built
KNOW runs on volunteers — high school and college students trained, supported, and promoted from within. It keeps tutoring affordable, and it means every KNOW tutor chose to be here. Many aren't just teaching — they're discovering they're educators.
